Thanks to those folks at KB Homes, Simi
Valley residents have been given the
clear signal that Runkle Canyon is
off-limits to local residents unlike before.
At the end of Talbert Ave., workers began
installing this new, ugly fencing in early
August 2006.
The view south into Runkle Canyon at
the end of Sequoia Ave. is blocked by
this new fence. A security guard now
keeps locals out of this canyon.
This Runkle Canyon road shows the signs
of deep grooves that can only come from
heavy construction equipment. Workers will
be the first exposed to the 100
tons of
strontium-90 laden dust made airborne
during grading and construction.
If KB Homes isn't stopped soon, these
hillsides will be covered in homes. Will the
developers tell our new residents of the
canyon's strontium-90 and perchlorate
found on the property? Unlikely.
Heavy equipment made these tracks
through the brush of Runkle Canyon. Has
KB Homes begun work without proper
permits? If so, it shouldn't come as any
surprise considering their track record of
hiding the pollution problems on the land.
Just beyond this Runkle Canyon wash lie
hundreds of homes on the southern
edge of Simi Valley. Will the thousands of
people in these expensive houses have
to worry about their property values
declining because of the fallout of 100
tons of radioactive dust settling on their
homes? Can they
STOP RUNKLEDYNE?
Runkle Resevoir is dry in the summertime
but even during the hottest months this
historic canyon has all the potential to be
beautiful parkland just like Ahmanson
Ranch right over the ridge which was also
going to be a development until pollution,
probably from Rocketdyne, helped force
its owners to sell it to the state.
The old dirt road down into the seasonally
dry Runkle Resevoir. 461 residences are
going to be built on the hills in the
background without an accurate
Environmental Impact Report on the
dangers lurking in the soil and water. This
may endanger our health and could get
the city sued for gross negligence.

"Toxic Terry" Matheney, a descendant of
the first Death Valley pioneers, would
rather be testing our wicked-cool spy
planes than having to deal with the likes of
KB Homes and a recalcitrant Simi Valley...
But this Golden Son of California senses
that something just ain't right in the hills
above his home...
Something about this place, this Runkle
Canyon, just doesn't add up: super-high
levels of Strontium-90 and arsenic have
made this valley a little less lovely...
"Fearless Frank" Serafine would rather be
jamming with Thomas Dolby at Hollywood's
Henry Fonda Theatre than worry about what
shenanigans greedy developers are up to...
But he can't help but worry when he finds
dead cattle in Runkle Canyon, cattle he
suspects died after drinking arsenic-laced
creek water...
As he watches KB Homes start to grade
the land without fully knowing what
poisons may have fouled the water and
soil...
So the Radiation Rangers did the obvious
thing when they saw the nasty water...
They told the City of Simi Valley about it
and were thanked by being mocked...
And told that they were causing "mass
hysteria"... so they tested the water
themselves and lo' and behold ARSENIC!
