Plans for a golf course in the proposed Runkle Canyon development were dropped Monday night when the Simi Valley City Council unanimously
turned down an offer for the land where it would be built.
At the same time, Mayor Paul Miller asked city staff to look into the possibility of a having a nonsectarian cemetery built on an additional 190
acres developer GreenPark Runkle Canyon was offering to the city.
An 18-hole, championship golf course was once envisioned as part of the project that calls for 298 single-family homes, 25 estates and 138
senior condominiums.
The developer offered 27 acres for the golf course for the city to develop on its own or in a partnership.
But at their meeting on Monday night, council members voted 4-0 to turn down the offer. Councilwoman Michelle Foster was absent.
The recommendation to scrap the offer was made based on the conclusions of a committee consisting of council members and Rancho Simi
Recreation and Park District board members, who in 2003 found the cost to develop the course was to expensive.
As detailed in an agreement between the developer and the city, the 27 acres will now be used for flood control and drainage.
